Spoiler alert: Buprenorphine and other MAT works better than abstinence-based programs (no surprise to those on this forum.) And adding psychiatric care for co-occurring disorders is also more helpful than traditional programs.
Though my D has enjoyed IOP, aftercare, mindfulness recovery, therapy, etc. and devotes huge amount of time to NA which she finds very beneficial, they are as socializing adjuncts to the Suboxone that gets primary credit as the foundation for thus far successful recovery. We live in a liberal city where the anti-MAT attitudes are not so dominant. A majority of the clean younger addicts in NA here are on Suboxone. The topic is the elephant in the room at meetings, but in private conversations and in groups at coffee shops afterwards is widely discussed. All the members already on Suboxone spread the word, encouraging those who keep relapsing and haven’t tried it yet to find a Suboxone doctor.
